When Hull take on with Millwall at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, it will have been more than two weeks since their last match and they will likely be grateful for the rest.

The Tigers played five matches in the first 19 days of January, but their exit from the FA Cup in the third-round replay means they have had some time away from the pitch since beating Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light last time out.

When they return to action, they will be eager to get points on the board as they continue their push for the play-offs, while Millwall are simply looking to climb into the top half of the standings.

Jean-Michael Seri and Adama Traore are unavailable for Hull as they are at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Jaden Philogene, Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly are sidelined.

Noah Ohio has joined the Tigers on loan from Standard Liege and could feature in this match.

For Millwall, Shaun Hutchinson, Tom Bradshaw, Ryan Leonard and Aidomo Emakhu are in the treatment room, while Ryan Longman cannot play against his parent club.

It has not been a great start to 2024 for Hull.

Having finished last year inside the top six, the Tigers have dropped to eighth in the standings following losses to Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich in the Championship in January.

An FA Cup exit at the hands of Birmingham also did their confidence no favours, but they should bounce back on Saturday against Millwall, who have been on an even poorer run of form.

Millwall are winless in their last four games in all competitions, losing three of them – against Leicester, Middlesbrough and QPR.

Although likely clear enough of danger to not have to worry about relegation, Millwall are still only eight points above the drop zone and they cannot afford to be complacent.

Goals have been an issue with only 30 scored in their 29 league games this season and head coach Joe Edwards is yet to establish himself since arriving in early November.

Hull have had a wobble, but are undoubtedly the stronger side and, with the play-off places in their sights, they are worth backing to prevail on home turf.
