Hull’s play-off hopes are slim following a run of one win in eight and they are now six points off sixth-placed Norwich, making this visit of QPR a must-win for Liam Rosenior and his side.

The Hoops are in their own battle at the other end of the table but an inspired managerial switch to Marti Cifuentes and a run of 10 games that has yielded just two defeats has seen them lift themselves out of the bottom three and open up a four-point gap on the relation zone.

Both teams have plenty to play for and it promises to be an intriguing clash when the two meet on Saturday (3pm) at the MKM Stadium.

Team news

Liam Delap remains out for the hosts, meaning makeshift striker Fabio Carvalho could continue up front, although Liam Rosenior may wish to deploy a more natural number nine, either Billy Sharp or Aaron Connolly, in attack.

The visitors will be without Jack Colback, Taylor Richards, Michael Frey and Rayan Kolli for this clash. Influential winger Chris Willock could return to the starting line-up after being dropped to the bench against Plymouth.

The stats

Hull are on a six-match winless streak at home, a run which has included four draws.

QPR are unbeaten in their last five away games, impressively beating Leicester during that sequence.

Four of the Tigers’ last five matches have seen over 3.5 goals, with both sides adding to the scoring total in each of those fixtures.

One or both teams have failed to score in four of the Hoops’ last six games.

Prediction

A huge reason for Hull’s lost footing in their playoff hunt has been the disastrous drop off in their home form. The Tigers have now gone six games without a win at the MKM in a run which includes defeats to strugglers Stoke and Swansea.

That run has proved costly as Rosenior’s men are now 10th and unlikely to pinch a playoff spot, and it could be extended this weekend when they take on an in-form QPR.

The Hoops are still in the relegation dogfight, but their ability to grind out results on their travels has given them the edge over plenty of their rivals. QPR have avoided defeat in their last five away matches, beating Leicester and drawing at Sunderland during that run.

Given Hull’s home struggles and Rangers’ exceptional away form, it is difficult to see the Tigers snapping their luckless run at the MKM when taking on Cifuentes’ men.

However, the hosts’ squad is still supremely talented with the likes of 10-goal Jaden Philogene and Fabio Carvalho - who has netted three times in as many appearances - in their ranks, suggesting they should have enough to avoid defeat.

QPR won the reverse fixture 2-0, but may have to settle for just a point this time, given that Hull have drawn four of their last six at the MKM.
