Saudi summons

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed he will manage in Saudi Arabia at some point in his career.

The 60-year-old reportedly turned down a huge offer in the summer to remain in Italy but is expected to leave at the end of the season.

He said: "I am committed to my work with Roma and I want to give everything to the club until the last day.

"No one knows the future but I will definitely do this [working in Saudi Arabia]."

Roma have had a frustrating start to their Serie A campaign — currently sitting seventh, 13 points off leaders Inter Milan.

The Special One guided the Italian giants to the Europa League final last term but lost out to perennial winners Sevilla on penalties.

Luck of the Welsh

Wales boss Rob Page is looking forward to a "great opportunity" when his side welcome Finland to Cardiff for the Euro 2024 play-offs in March.

The Dragons' draw with Turkiye on Tuesday means that they will have to overcome the Scandinavians before one of Poland or Estonia to book a spot at the tournament in Germany next year.

He said: "We tried to forecast the draw beforehand and we weren't too far away.

"What's important to us is that home draw in the final — we've got to get the job done [against Finland] first and foremost, of course we have. 

"We were probably wanting to avoid Ukraine as well so I think it’s gone to plan for us. I don’t think any team in that group [Ukraine, Finland and Iceland] would have been wanting to play us. 

"The form we're in at the minute and with the ‘Red Wall’ at home, we’ll take anyone on in Cardiff. It's a great opportunity for us."

Rally the troops

Former Everton midfielder Peter Reid believes the blue half of Merseyside will not take their Premier League punishment lying down.

The Toffees were handed a 10-point deduction for breaching financial fair play rules although pundits and players have branded the sanction as harsh.

Reid said: "I think it's excessive. If Everton broke the rules, then yes, a punishment but I think the 10 points is excessive. 

"The thing that drove me mad is that it was leaked before that it was going to be 12 points, I thought that was very distasteful in my opinion. 

"When it comes down to 10, it was unprecedented and I think if they go back and have a look at it, I think possibly they'd realise it was a mistake.

"I'm there on Sunday against Manchester United and I know for a fact it'll be a great game. I tell you what, the Evertonians won't take this lying down."

Road to recovery

Sam Kerr believes she is closing in on a return to her top form after recovering from injury over the summer.

The Australian forward picked up an issue in the build-up to the Women's World Cup and admits the problem is still hindering her performances for Chelsea.

She said: "I'm feeling better but it's been a process. I've never really, since I've been at Chelsea, dealt with a niggle or injury.

"I've usually been at a high fitness level and played game after game and training session after session. 

"I'm only on my way back up now, I'm still not at my peak but I feel like I've turned the corner now and I'm on the way up."

Kerr bagged 12 goals in the Women's Super League last season but has so far only managed two in five appearances under Emma Hayes.

Perfect start

Barcelona extended their perfect start in the Women's Champions League by coming from behind to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1.

The defending champions struggled to make an impression in Germany and went 1-0 down just before half-time.

Despite dominating the ball, it was looking like a frustrating night for Jonatan Giraldez's side.

But Salma Paralluelo's brace either side of Mariona Caldentey's strike in the second half were enough to prevent an upset.

Barca, who have won each of their 11 games across all competitions this season, lead the way in Group A with six points from their opening two matches with Frankfurt in second.

The Catalan giants return to league action when they travel to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
