Three Lions on the Toon

England will face Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James' Park and Iceland at Wembley in June as part of their preparations for Euro 2024.

It will be the first time Newcastle's stadium will host a Three Lions game since 2005 — a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan — and just the eighth time ever.

The clash on Tyneside on June 3 will also be England's first ever meeting with the Balkan nation, whose place at Euro 2024 rests on qualifying through the play-offs.

Gareth Southgate's men then return to their usual home on June 7 to face Iceland for a final send-off before their European Championship campaign in Germany begins against Serbia on June 16.

Southgate said: "We're really looking forward to taking the team back to the North East and to a city that is synonymous with football in this country.

"We will follow that with another special occasion at Wembley allowing our fans the opportunity to give us a final send-off before we head to Germany for another exciting summer.

"Both opponents in June are sure to provide stiff competition and play an important part in our preparation for the tournament."

Positive signs

Lucas Bergvall will join Tottenham on July 1
Lucas Bergvall will join Tottenham on July 1

Ange Postecoglou says Lucas Bergvall's decision to join Tottenham over other suitors shows the club are heading in the right direction.

Spurs confirmed the signing of the Swedish starlet, 18, last week with the midfielder set to officially join on July 1 after reportedly rejecting LaLiga giants Barcelona amongst other clubs.

In a video on Tottenham's X page, Australian boss Postecoglou said: "He's got some really good attributes and he's a great young player. He comes from a good family.

"And he was very thoughtful about his next step which I thought was important. He obviously had some choices.

"It's great for us that he's decided to join because I think it shows that we're trying to build something here and that people see us as a good option for themselves.

"I'm looking forward to getting him in this summer and getting him working with the group and helping him grow from there."

Stark Warning

Neil Warnock will manage Aberdeen until the end of the season
Neil Warnock will manage Aberdeen until the end of the season

Former Scotland striker Kenny Miller has slammed Aberdeen's decision to appoint Neil Warnock as their manager until the end of the season.

The 75-year-old will return to the dugout to replace Barry Robson in what will be his first job in Scottish football — and Miller believes the appointment is "short sighted".

Rangers legend Miller told the BBC: "He's had a wonderful managerial career. I just ask myself what the thought process behind it is, from an Aberdeen point of view.

"I'm just thinking, what's the thought behind giving Neil Warnock one of our best jobs for this short period? Has he ever watched Scottish football never mind worked in Scottish football? They don't need to rush into any appointment.

"Take time to make sure they get the right guy in. They've not got the right guy in over the last three appointments or so.

"I find it strange. It's short sighted. They could give the job to anybody and Aberdeen will make it into the top six."

In good Kompany

David Datro Fofana scored twice on his home debut for Burnley
David Datro Fofana scored twice on his home debut for Burnley

Vincent Kompany has revealed he tried to bring David Datro Fofana to Burnley in January 2023 before the Ivorian striker moved to Chelsea.

A year on, the former Molde ace is finally at Turf Moor on loan from the Blues and made an instant impact by scoring twice on his home debut in a 2-2 comeback draw with Fulham last Saturday.

Fofana, 21, has struggled for playing time at Stamford Bridge and spent the first half of the season on loan at Union Berlin, where he netted twice in 17 games.

Clarets boss Kompany said: "I was following him before Chelsea got him, I tried to get him.

"He has goalscoring ability. He had that in Norway but then you get lost in the top five leagues and as a striker you need to get used to it. But sometimes it's just the right timing.

"I think he's a player who is still finding his feet within the squad so hopefully we can benefit from him even more as the season goes on.

"I don't believe in any one individual on his own getting us over the line. But I do believe that, as a collective, having these options will give us a chance."

New balls please

Adidas have revealed the new ball that will be used in the Women's Champions League knockout stage.

The UWCL Pro Ball Bilbao is inspired by the host of this season's final, featuring depictions of the Basque city's architecture.

The traditional Champions League stars are incorporated alongside the unique motif of the San Mames Stadium, which will stage the showpiece on May 25.

The draw for the quarter-finals takes place tomorrow, with Women's Super League champions Chelsea among those waiting to learn their last-eight opponents.

The UWCL Pro Ball Bilbao is available to purchase in adidas stores and online now here.
