Portland Thorns have signed Chelsea midfielder Jessie Fleming for a reported £250,000 fee.

Fleming scored 12 goals in 111 appearances since joining the Blues in 2020 and won the Women's Super League title in each of her three completed seasons with the club.

She was a member of Emma Hayes' squad for the 2021 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona before making 36 appearances in each of the following two campaigns.

But playing time has been harder to come by this term and a move to America has been granted by the WSL leaders.

Canada international Fleming, 25, said: "I'm very excited to be joining the Portland Thorns.

"More than anything, I'm looking forward to being a part of the incredible community surrounding the team that is so often talked about.

"I feel honoured to represent these people and this city and cannot wait to get started."

Fleming was also crucial to Canada's gold medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, scoring in the final against Sweden.

And Thorns general manager Karina LeBlanc is delighted to be adding a player with such pedigree to their squad.

She said: "As we continue to pursue championships, it is important for us to bring in players with championship mindsets.

"After speaking with Jessie it became very clear that the Thorns are an organisation she has admired from afar.

"She understands how uniquely rare and special this community, fanbase and team is."

National Women's Soccer League outfit Portland kick off their 2024 campaign on March 16 against KC Current as they aim to improve on their run to last season's playoff semi-finals.
