A number of outstanding performances caught Joleon Lescott's eye during Matchday 23

What a weekend of Premier League action with 45 goals scored across Matchday 23!

In all honesty, I could have picked a deserving star performer from every game but I've whittled it down to just five across the 10 thrilling clashes.

Richarlison (Tottenham)

A late equaliser for Everton won't stop Richarlison from making this list after an excellent return to Goodison Park with Tottenham.

A lot has been made over his move from the Toffees and how he hasn't really found the same form in front of goal but he's been exceptional since returning from injury towards the end of last year.

The Brazilian's brilliant double on Merseyside took his tally to eight goals in nine games, but his overall play really impressed me too.

I think he's enjoyed that extra burden of responsibility on his shoulders whilst captain Heung-Min Son has been away at the Asian Cup.

David Datro Fofana (Burnley)

David Datro Fofana was also at the double after coming off the bench on his home debut to inspire a 2-2 comeback draw for Burnley.

Chelsea's loanee made an impact as a substitute against Manchester City last week and showed what he can do once again.

The Ivorian, 21, can clearly play or else the Blues wouldn't have picked him last January and he's finally got the chance to showcase his talent in England.

Given the Clarets remain in a tough situation, I'm sure Vincent Kompany will be desperate to use Fofana from the start in the coming games.

Matheus Cunha (Wolves)

It was another disappointing afternoon for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as Wolves ran riot in a 4-2 win.

But rather than focus on the Blues' woes, I want to point out the exceptional display by hat-trick hero Matheus Cunha.

He's similar to Richarlison in that he's getting the rewards for his work ethic and shining whilst other stars — such as Hee Chan Hwang — are away from the team.

The former Atletico Madrid ace has 10 goals and three assists in the Premier League this season and is showing what a high-level player he is on a consistent basis.

Jorginho (Arsenal)

Jorginho showed Chelsea exactly what they are missing after a dominant display against Liverpool by the experienced midfielder.

It was a big task for the playmaker to come into the starting XI in such a huge clash given the tempo Jurgen Klopp's side like to play at.

But he pulled the strings on Sunday afternoon, controlling possession and nullifying the press from the opposition whilst supporting his own side's efforts to force the Reds into mistakes.

The 32-year-old's understanding of the game is superb and looks to be a very handy asset at Mikel Arteta's disposal.

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

A scintillating performance from Phil Foden on Monday night took Manchester City back above Arsenal and two points behind Liverpool.

It was a brilliant treble by Phil, who said he's playing his best football in a City shirt this season and I think that's certainly the case.

He's comfortably been City's player of the season so far and is another to really thrive while key stars like Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have been unavailable

Thriving in that central role, it's a difficult task for England manager Gareth Southgate to get both him and Jude Bellingham into the same XI.

But as fans, let's just sit back and get excited about that prospect at this summer's Euros.
