LiveScore Racing News: Adayar to take up Ascot entry

Trainer Charlie Appleby has confirmed Adayar will turn out in Saturday's QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot after impressing during Wednesday's gallop.

After returning to action this season with successive second places at Sandown and Lingfield, Appleby's charge put in two stunning performances at Epsom and Ascot.

Adayar finished four-and-a-half-lengths clear of Mojo Star to win the Cazoo Derby at Epsom before beating Mishriff by one-and-three-quarter-lengths in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes at Ascot.

Those victories in June and July respectively convinced connections to take Adayar to ParisLongchamp for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

But the Frankel colt had to settle for fourth, finishing three-and-three-quarter-lengths behind winner Torquator Tasso on October 3.

A quick return for this Saturday's QIPCO Champion Stakes was not initially on the cards after that performance in France. 

Yet after impressing during a workout at Moulton Paddocks, the team have decided to take up entry.

Appleby told www.godolphin.com: "It was an easy piece of work to confirm his well-being, and he did it so well. 

"We discussed it with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and the decision was taken to run. We are all looking forward to the rematch with Mishriff, particularly over this trip.

"Adayar beat Mishriff comfortably in the King George and then Mishriff came out and dominated the Juddmonte International at York, winning by six lengths, over the distance [approximately] of Saturday's race.

"We are happy to meet him over the mile and a quarter, which is the trip where we believe Adayar's potential lies next year [at four]."

Adayar has had a rather quiet autumn campaign after missing his trial for the Arc due to a setback but his participation is a boost for Godolphin.

A rematch with Mishriff is on the cards over the shorter trip of 10 furlongs, while the William Haggas-trained Addeybb is set to be among the frontrunners.

Mishriff has responded well to that second place in the King George, bouncing back to win the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August.

Addeybb, meanwhile, also has strong claims after some impressive displays in England and Australia over the past couple of years.

The seven-year-old has finished in the top two in each of his last 12 outings and came home second when last seen at Sandown in July.

That was Addeybb's first appearance since a double-header Down Under when jockey Tom Marquand steered him to second and first at Rosehill and Randwick, respectively.
