Burnley vs Brighton predictions: Clarets doomed to draw disappointment

Burnley are rapidly running out of time as they try to stage a late-season surge away from the relegation places, and they will have earmarked the visit from Brighton as a must-win affair.

The Clarets will be buoyed by the fact that Brighton have gone stale but they are also chasing wins as they pursue a return to Europe.

Team news

Dara O’Shea, sent off in Burnley’s 1-0 loss at Everton, is suspended. Hannes Delcroix or Hjalmar Ekdal are candidates to replace him.

Vincent Kompany could also drop Sander Berge into the back four and recall Josh Brownhill in midfield.

Roberto De Zerbi will inevitably make changes after the 3-0 drubbing by Arsenal with Joao Pedro and Ansu Fati set for starts.

Billy Gilmour, James Milner, Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood are out.

Burnley need wins like never before but are demonstrably not very good at getting them having managed just four victories all season.

They are 12/5 to get their fifth at home to Brighton, who they meet at a seemingly decent time.

Albion are stretched by injuries, fading after a campaign that has featured many European treks and are out of form with just three wins in their last nine Premier League games.

It is still hard, however, to summon much enthusiasm for Kompany’s hosts given that De Zerbi’s depleted side will keep hold of the ball for long periods and the Clarets, with just 32 goals in 32 matches, are no great threat themselves.

The desire for victory is key for both sides, Burnley for survival purposes, Brighton to stay in the chase for a European place.

The cost of defeat, however, certainly for the hosts, is pretty much unthinkable, especially given their run-in.

A long, hard season is taking its toll and this looks set to be tight and tense with chances at a premium so there is a very real prospect of a draw.
