Manchester United to win

Bournemouth have enjoyed a solid first season under the guidance of Andoni Iraola and they have a chance to complete a first ever league double over Manchester United in the late Premier League game on Saturday.

The Cherries claimed a sensational 3-0 win at Old Trafford back in December but they are coming into the game on the back of a disappointing result, having seen a five-game unbeaten run ended at Luton last time out.

United will probably have one eye on next week’s FA Cup semi-final date with Championship outfit Coventry but their hopes of qualifying for Europe next season via the league are still alive. Erik Ten Hag’s men sit sixth, which, as it stands, would be good enough for a Europa Conference League spot.

Team news

Marcus Tavernier was on target for Bournemouth at Luton but will miss out this weekend after sustaining a thigh injury in that defeat.

Luis Sinisterra and Ryan Fredericks are also injury absentees, while Tyler Adams, Antoine Semenyo and Chris Mepham are all rated as doubts.

Manchester United have a host of injury issues in defence as Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are all absent. That means that Willy Kambwala, 19, is set to continue in central defence alongside Harry Maguire.

Anthony Martial is also missing while Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Sofyan Amrabat are doubts.

The stats

Bournemouth have failed to win all five of their home games against the current top side (D1, L4).

Manchester United have scored at least twice in four of their last five games.

The Cherries recorded just one attempt on target at Luton last week.

United have won three of the last four meetings between these two sides.

Prediction

Manchester United may be a little distracted by their upcoming FA Cup last-four date but they still look a good bet to win at Bournemouth this weekend.

The Cherries were poor at Luton last time out as they offered very little in that 2-1 defeat. Marcus Tavernier gave them an early lead but they failed to muster another attempt on goal after that and were dominated by the Hatters for large periods.

United go into the game in poor form but they have shown a bit of fight of late. Ten Hag’s side were incredibly unlucky to lose 4-3 at Chelsea after fighting back from 2-0 down to take a lead, while last weekend they gave title chasers Liverpool a stern examination in a 2-2 draw.

Bournemouth won the reverse fixture 3-0 but they have largely struggled against the division’s big guns this term and they have just one point to show from five home games against the current top six.

United could probably do with a bit of a boost before they face Coventry at Wembley next weekend and they may just get it at the Vitality Stadium, and at the current prices, a win for the visitors looks a good play here.
