Bayern Munich will look to maintain the upper hand over Borussia Dortmund when the two clash in Der Klassiker on Saturday evening.

Thomas Tuchel's team needs to win to remain in the hunt for another Bundesliga title, but they have a 10-point gap to make up to leaders Bayer Leverkusen with only eight games to go.

And there is a question mark over Harry Kane's involvement after the 31-goal top scorer, who bagged a hat-trick in Bayern's 4-0 victory in Dortmund earlier this season, injured himself during the 5-2 thrashing of Darmstadt earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Dortmund have run into some form and may be in better shape now in terms of injuries than when they last faced Bayern.

Team news

The fitness of Dortmund's first-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has been a slight concern in the build-up to this game.

But coach Edin Terzic revealed the injury that kept the Switzerland international out of his side's 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this month was not serious, describing the decision to leave Kobel out as a "precautionary measure".

Jadon Sancho was an unused substitute in that game, which came hot on the heels of a sparkling Champions League performance by the Englishman against PSV Eindhoven.

The on-loan Manchester United winger could be recalled, although Terzic might prefer to utilise the pacier Karim Adeyemi on the left flank.

As for Bayern, the club released a statement on Kane's fitness after he completed an individual training session on Monday.

The England captain hurt his ankle when sliding into a post at Darmstadt, but should be ready to lock horns with Die Schwarzgelben once more.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is in a race against time to be fit for the clash after picking up an adductor injury while on international duty.

So understudy Sven Ulreich stands by to make his first Bundesliga appearance since October while Alphonso Davies could return at left-back.

The stats

Bayern Munich hold the edge over Dortmund in the Bundesliga era with 55 wins to BVB's 25 in 110 matches.

Goals are usually plentiful in this fixture with a total of 34 scored in the last seven meetings of the clubs, which works out at an average of almost five per game.

Meanwhile, Terzic is yet to mastermind a victory over Bayern in four attempts, with his Dortmund teams losing three of those games and conceding four goals each time.

Prediction

Thomas Tuchel will hope a win against his former club can spur Bayern towards success

Bayern are strong at home and have tormented Dortmund in this fixture in recent seasons, but the fitness concerns around Neuer and Kane could be crucial.

Both are big characters and if one or both of them miss out it will give the away dressing room a huge lift.

Even if the star duo shake off their injuries, they might not be quite at the top of their games for a clash that demands nothing short of every player's best.

Dortmund have been consistent on their travels this season, losing only one away Bundesliga game all season and faring much better in Leverkusen than Bayern did.

The aftershocks of that 3-0 loss in February are still being felt in Munich and it would be no surprise to see the Bavarians tripped up again in a high-pressure clash.
