England have less than a week before they start the defence of their Women’s European Championship title and Sarina Wiegman’s side will be looking for the best possible send-off when they play a final friendly against Jamaica on Sunday.

Their opponents have struggled in recent friendlies against Mexico and the United States and will be trying to stop the rot, despite being without star striker Khadija Shaw.

Team news

It would not be a surprise if England manager Sarina Wiegman took the opportunity to shuffle the pack in this final preparation game, but all eyes will be on how much of a role Lauren James plays in Leicester.

The Chelsea playmaker has been struggling with a hamstring injury, while this will be the Lionesses first game since central defender Millie Bright’s international retirement.

Jamaica will have to do without Manchester City star striker Khadija Shaw, while Taylor Hinds, Drew Spence, Rebecca Spencer and Jody Brown are also ruled out.

Jamaica have lost their last three matches by an aggregate 11-0 scoreline.

England have scored more than two goals in just three of their last 16 matches.

The Lionesses have won five of their last six home games.

Both teams have scored in two of Jamaica’s last 11 internationals.

England have kept a clean sheet in each of their last five home games.

Prediction

Lionesses fans are counting down the days until Sarina Wiegman’s side start their defence of their Women’s Euros title against France on Saturday, and a comforting victory in their final preparation match against Jamaica in Leicester should be a matter of routine.

England have admittedly had an inconsistent 12 months and winning a group that contains Les Bleues and the Netherlands will not be an easy task, but it is difficult to see the Reggae Girlz offering much resistance at the King Power Stadium.

Jamaica have to cope with the absence of one of the Women’s Super League’s top strikers Khadija Shaw and they are licking their wounds after conceding 11 goals without a response in two friendlies against Mexico and another versus the United States.

England are a very short price to head to Switzerland with a win, but they may not post a cricket score despite the weakness of their final friendly opposition.

The Lionesses have recorded hefty wins against Belgium and Portugal, but they do not tend to run riot and could take the opportunity to put the brakes on relatively early with one eye on their massive opening game in Zurich on Saturday.
