Blackburn's visit to Stoke on Wednesday could affect the battles at both ends of the Championship table. 

Rovers came out of the weekend action just three points off the play-off places but they have been trending in the wrong direction since former manager John Eustace quit to join Derby last month.

Blackburn slipped to eighth place with Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Eustace's new team and they are in danger of being swallowed up by a pack of clubs close behind them.

Stoke's main concern is to pull clear of any relegation danger after their 3-2 weekend defeat to in-form Coventry.

The Potters were four points ahead of 22nd-placed Derby after the weekend fixtures and looking to turn their fortunes around after taking only one point from their last four matches.

Stoke won the teams' first meeting this season 2-0 in November, but Blackburn triumphed in both of their encounters last term.

Ben Pearson is an injury doubt for Stoke after going off with a suspected hamstring injury against Coventry. Jordan Thompson could replace him, while Million Manhoef and Sam Gallagher are in contention to start after coming off the bench in that game.

Blackburn are set to be missing Augustus Kargbo (hamstring) and Ryan Hedges (thigh) until after the international break. John Buckley, Andi Weimann, Owen Beck, Danny Batth, Harry Pickering, Harry Leonard and Scott Wharton are still out but Emmanuel Dennis is set to return.

Stoke's recent performances have been better than the bare results and Saturday's battling effort against red-hot Coventry arguably deserved at least a draw. 

The Potters had come back well from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 with four minutes left against a Sky Blues side that had won four in a row, but they then conceded deep into added time. 

They held Watford to a goalless draw at home before that and have been hard to beat in the Potteries of late, with only Middlesbrough able to take three points from them at the bet365 Stadium in 2025.

Rovers have lost seven of their last 11 games and new manager Valerien Ismael's injury problems are mounting with Augustus Kargbo and Ryan Hedges the latest pair to get hurt.

Blackburn have lost at Swansea and Derby in their last two away games and could suffer another defeat to a team from the bottom half of the standings.
