Day seven at Wimbledon sees brave Britons Cameron Norrie and Sonay Kartal bid to extend their fine runs in their homeland Slam. However, while they could progress, it may be slightly likelier that the pair will exit the All England Club action at the last-16 stage this year.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz and women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka are also in action and all are likely to prolong their stays in their singles events.

Nicolas Jarry vs Cameron Norrie

Cameron Norrie has upped his game in recent days to see off Roberto Bautista Agut, Frances Tiafoe and Mattia Bellucci and the 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist has not yet been take to five sets on the grass this year.

But while Norrie is going along well, he faces a potentially tougher test on day seven because he may not have the weapons to stop 6ft 7in Chilean Nicolas Jarry from continuing his giant-killing in London.

Jarry has beaten eighth seed Holger Rune, Learner Tien and Joao Fonseca in the past week and the resurgent Santiago native could overpower Norrie on the lush lawns.

Karen Khachanov vs Kamil Majchrzak

Karen Khachanov leads Kamil Majchrzak 3-0 on the head-to-heads but their most recent meeting, on grass in Den Bosch in 2022, finished 5-7 7-5 7-6.

Their other two meetings were competitive too and so with Majchrzak looking to impress in the wake of missing all of 2023 due to a doping ban, the Polish outsider is not without a chance of nailing a first victory over Khachanov, let alone keeping it close.

Khachanov has been taken to five sets in his last two singles starts against Shintaro Mochizuki and Nuno Borges, so Majchrzak could prove to be a good thing receiving a handicap start of 5.5 games.

Sonay Kartal vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Once she got going in both of her second and third-round outings, Sonay Kartal made light work of Viktoriya Tomova and Diane Parry.

However, it was her opening Wimbledon victory over 2017 French Open heroine Jelena Ostapenko that would have informed many that the solid London-born Kartal was entirely capable of improving on her third-round placing in the capital last year.

But while Kartal may be tough to stop, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova remains one of the best WTA Tour players yet to win a Slam singles. And the way she coolly fought back from a set down to deny Ajla Tomljanovic and Naomi Osaka in week one suggests Kartal may find it tough trying to pass her last-16 test.
