The British Grand Prix arrives at a fascinating point in the 2025 F1 World Championship, with the scene now set for a intra-team battle for the title between McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
The pair chalked up their fourth one-two finish of the year when Norris won the Austrian Grand Prix last Sunday and he now trails his Australian team-mate by 15 points as the drivers prepare for the final race in the first half of the season.
McLaren have not won their home race since Lewis Hamilton's brilliant drive in the rain in 2008, but after recording their first win in Austria for 24 years they should not be too concerned about the trends of the last few seasons.
Three different drivers have won for three different teams in recent Silverstone races with Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Hamilton (Mercedes) successful at the Northamptonshire track since 2022, but the McLaren pair head the betting for the 2025 race.
The stats
Piastri has five victories to his name this season, but has won only one of the last five races.
Norris has eight top-two finishes in the 11 races so far this season, while the McLaren drivers have finished on the podium together eight times this term.
Red Bull's four-time reigning world champion Verstappen has won only one of the last eight races.
Hamilton holds the record for British Grand Prix wins with nine, but has enjoyed only one victory since his 2024 Silverstone success.

Prediction
After Piastri was favourite for the last few F1 races, oddsmakers are finding it hard to split to McLaren pair as the British Grand Prix approaches and that looks the right approach after a much-improved performance from Norris in Austria.
The British driver managed to avoid the qualifying mistakes that have plagued him this season, taking pole and converting it into his third win of the season despite being challenged by Piastri at times.
With little to pick between the pair on pace this season, the advantage at Silverstone can be given to Norris, not because it's his home race, but because he has had the edge over his team-mate at the track in each of the last two seasons.
Last season Norris qualified third and finished in the same position in a messy rain-affected race, while Piastri was fifth on the grid and finished fourth.
The previous year, Piastri qualified third and finished fourth in his rookie season, while Norris finished runner-up for the first time in his career after qualifying second.
Provided they can avoid contact with each other after colliding in Canada and having a near-miss in Austria, Norris can be fancied to record his first home victory.
Mercedes would welcome rain or cooler conditions as Austria again saw them struggling in hot temperatures, and they might get that but with Ferrari bringing more upgrades the competition for podium places could be tight.
Verstappen was not at fault for his early exit in Spielberg, but has dropped to 61 points behind Piastri in the standings and his title defence looks in real trouble.
For a second bet on the race, take Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber to stretch his run of points finishes to four.
The German has finished fifth, eighth and ninth in the last three rounds and came from last on the grid to take two points at Spielberg, with team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto also in the top 10 in eighth, having had a much better qualifying session.
Hulkenberg has chalked up some excellent results at Silverstone in his career, finishing in the points 10 times, including top-six finishes for Renault and then for Haas last season.
