Manchester United will demand £50million if Newcastle push ahead with their Scott McTominay pursuit.

The Scotland star, 26, carried his good form over from the international break and scored the opener as Erik ten Hag's Red Devils beat Everton 2-0 yesterday.

McTominay has fallen down the pecking order since Casemiro and Christian Eriksen arrived at Old Trafford but the Daily Star insists United will not let their academy product go on the cheap.

He has still racked up 35 appearances in all competitions, although 11 of his 21 Premier League outings have come from the bench.

Midfield is a problem area for Ten Hag and Toon chief Eddie Howe, who both lack depth in a crucial position.

United struggled recently with Eriksen and Casemiro on the sidelines and have been linked with Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong, Borussia Dortmund teen Jude Bellingham and Leicester's Youri Tielemans among others.

Toon, meanwhile, have been strongly tipped to make a move for Tielemans' Foxes team-mate James Maddison over the summer as they look to build on an impressive campaign.

Both sides won this weekend to leave the Magpies sitting third — one place ahead of United on goal difference — with Champions League qualification crucial for their recruitment plans.
