Anthony Martial could extend his stay at Manchester United after head coach Erik ten Hag admitted the club are in talks with the Frenchman over a contract extension.

Martial, 28, has made 13 Premier League appearances this season, scoring just once and starting only five times.

Since joining in 2015, the striker has made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils and signed a new deal in 2019, keeping him in Manchester until this summer.

But he has struggled to make an impact for the English giants and is still trying to win over fans nine years later.

During his press conference on Thursday, Ten Hag was quizzed on why the former Monaco man would be offered a new deal.

He said: "We are talking with Rafael Varane, with Anthony Martial. It is an internal discussion between the club and the player"

The 30-cap international has shown glimpses of his quality during his time at Old Trafford, most notably scoring a delightful goal on his debut against Liverpool.

He also had a hand in helping United win the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup while working under six different managers.

Despite Ten Hag's revelation, TalkSPORT suggest the Red Devils will opt not to extend the Frenchman's deal, which would open the door for a free exit this summer.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho is edging closer to a return to Borussia Dortmund, with Manchester Evening News reporting a deal between the two clubs is almost agreed.
