Millwall to win to nil

Millwall’s resurgence under Neil Harris could be set to continue when they host fellow strugglers Birmingham on Saturday.

The Lions earned crucial victories over promotion-chasing Southampton and mid-table Watford in Harris’s first games back in charge, before picking up a point at Blackburn last time out to leave themselves two points above the relegation zone.

The Blues meanwhile are winless in three games — albeit against current top six sides — and have the second-worst away record in the division, with their 12 points accrued only bettering bottom-of-the-table Rotherham (4).

Team news

Injuries to key attackers — notably Kevin Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw — have left Neil Harris with very few attacking options, with Burnley loanee Michael Obafemi the only recognised striker for the Lions.

Harris may be wanting to rotate his squad after recent gruelling contests, so the likes of Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Duncan Watmore and Joe Bryan could all be in line for a recall to the starting XI.

Birmingham are still without captain Dion Sanderson as he remains suspended from his straight red card picked up in their defeat to Southampton, while Krystian Bielik is also not expected back until after the international break with a stomach injury.

There could be one returnee from the treatment table however, with Marc Roberts recently back in full training after a calf injury and he could feature in some capacity on Saturday.

The points were shared in the reverse meeting back in September, with the two sides playing out a 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s.

Only the bottom three — Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke — have scored fewer goals than Millwall this season.

Birmingham have failed to score in three of their last five fixtures on the road in all competitions.

Prediction

In what could be a pivotal result for either side as they look to avoid relegation from the second tier, a resurgent Millwall side could take all three points at The Den.

Despite averaging 27% possession over their three games under Harris, the Lions remain unbeaten under the 46-year-old and have lost just one of their last 10 meetings with the Blues.

Birmingham have struggled offensively across the season, averaging 0.28 goals per shot on target in the league which ranks in the bottom six in the division.

The Blues have scored just 16 goals in 18 away games in the Championship so far this season, while they have also scored just twice in their last four visits to The Den.

This will likely be a low-scoring affair but Millwall’s recent up-turn in form may be enough to get them over the line in this vital six-pointer.
