Mikel Arteta's Arsenal beat PSV Eindhoven 4-0 at the Emirates

Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Kai Havertz after Arsenal's 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven.

The German came into the Gunners' XI in place of Fabio Vieira and played the full 90 minutes at the Emirates.

Havertz had to watch on as Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard got themselves on the scoresheet but Arteta was still impressed with the performance from his summer signing.

The Arsenal boss said: "He [Havertz] was very connected today.

"It's true I asked him to play in two different roles [midfield and No9].

"And he is so intelligent in the way he does it.

"It's just finishing one or two actions that we had again, but it's coming and he's so willing to do it."

Arteta will now have to pick between Havertz and Vieira for the left-sided midfield role against Tottenham on Sunday.

Another selection dilemma for the Arsenal boss ahead of the North London derby is between the sticks, with David Raya once again getting the nod ahead of Aaron Ramsdale against PSV.

On the goalkeeping decision, he added: "It's the belief that I had in the team that I wanted to play with the expected opponent.

"Not only that, the changes that we made with all the players, it was for the same reason."

Arsenal's victory over PSV was the first time they have scored more than three goals in a match this season, although Arteta still believes his side can improve in the middle of the pitch.

The 41-year-old said: "Box to box there are things we should have done much, much better and that's every single day you have to be at it.

"You have to be really analytical to try to improve, but at the same time credit to the boys to play the way they played in certain moments.

"To score four goals in the Champions League against a team that hasn't lost a single game, credit to them as well."
