Juventus vs Torino predictions: Solid Juve should stand firm against derby rivals

A 15-point deduction for Juventus means they go into the second Turin derby of the Serie A season just one point ahead of local rivals Torino.

The actual gulf between the teams is far wider than the amended league standings suggest and Juve have been on a fine run ever since October's 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

Dusan Vlahovic's late winner away to Torino kicked off a sequence of 11 victories in 14 league matches for Massimiliano Allegri's side, who also progressed to the Europa League last 16 thanks to last week's 4-1 aggregate success against Nantes.

It is almost eight years since Torino celebrated a derby win over Juve and they have struggled against Italy's big guns this season, taking just one point from six away matches against teams in the top seven.

Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli is suspended for Juventus after picking up a fifth booking of the Serie A campaign. Paul Pogba, Fabio Miretti and Arkadiusz Milik remain sidelined although Pogba is closing in on a return after a serious knee injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.

Leandro Paredes could be a like-for-like replacement for Locatelli while another option for Allegri is to play Federico Chiesa, fitness permitting, ahead of midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli.

Torino are depleted by injuries to Nikola Vlasic, Ronaldo Vieira, Valentino Lazaro, Pietro Pelligri and David Zima. Former Chelsea, Hull and Fulham wing-back Ola Aina is suspended.

Juventus manager Allegri has been delighted with his side's defensive performances recently and they have conceded only one goal in their last six matches, winning five of them to nil.

Juve have kept clean sheets in all 14 of their league victories this season. Four of those wins were by a 3-0 scoreline and that was also their margin of victory in last week's Europa League second leg away to Nantes.

Torino have not won any of their last 17 league and cup derbies against Juventus, dating back to a 2-1 home victory in April 2015.

Juve have won five of the last 10 meetings between the rivals by a 1-0 scoreline but their forwards have been more effective at home this season, scoring 25 of their 36 league goals on their own turf.

Eight of Torino's last 10 Serie A matches have produced under 2.5 goals and they have conceded only eight times in the first half of their 23 league games this term.

Prediction

After a slow start to the season, Juventus have been grinding out victories and clean sheets at an impressive rate and another win to nil is on the cards in the Derby della Mole.

Torino's last away league win against Juve came in 1995 and they lack the firepower to upset their in-form city rivals, who have been excellent at home this season.

Juventus World Cup winner Angel Di Maria is full of confidence after his Europa League hat-trick against Nantes and the possible return of twinkle-toed Italy forward Chiesa provides a further boost to the hosts' morale.

Torino lost 1-0 at AC Milan in their last away fixture, where they mustered only two shots on target – the same number as they managed in October's 1-0 home defeat to Juve – and it is hard to see them unsettling Allegri's well-drilled defensive unit.
