Five goalscorers to watch out for this weekend

We have picked out five potential goalscorers to keep an eye on, with some cracking fixtures on the cards across Europe.

Gabriel Jesus (8/5 anytime for Arsenal vs Liverpool)

Liverpool’s away form will be a serious concern ahead of their trip to league leaders Arsenal, with Jurgen Klopp’s men having failed to win any of their four road trips this season.

The porous nature of Liverpool’s defence will have Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus licking his lips, with the Reds conceding an average of two goals per game on the road and conceding five goals in their last four Anfield outings.

Jesus has scored in three of his last four starts for Arsenal, and while they face a big-name opponent this weekend, Liverpool’s backline is performing at nowhere near its usual elite level.

James Maddison (15/8 anytime for Leicester at Bournemouth)

James Maddison has been Leicester’s stand-out player in a tough season for the Foxes, with the attacking midfielder seemingly determined to make an impression on England manager Gareth Southgate before the World Cup squads are announced.

Five goals in his last six Premier League appearances, including a couple of screamers against Nottingham Forest on Monday night, show that there is no lack of end product to his majestic play, either.

The 15/8 available for him to get on the scoresheet against Bournemouth looks generous, given he has done just that in four of seven league outings this term. The fact that he faces a Cherries side who have conceded 19 goals in eight league games only makes that price look bigger.

Jack Grealish (13/5 anytime for Manchester City vs Southampton)

Admittedly, it is a lucky dip when selecting which players will join Erling Haaland on the scoresheet whenever Manchester City line-up, but Jack Grealish looks as likely as any on present form.

The England winger has been sensational for his club in recent weeks and made no attempt to hide his desire to add more goals to his tally in his interview after City’s 5-0 rout of Copenhagen in midweek.

Visitors Southampton have failed to keep a single clean sheet in eight Premier League outings this term and have a recent history of folding in spectacular style.

They will be under the cosh right from the kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, and while they are focusing on the likes of Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, Grealish could get his wish and pop up with another goal to add to the one scored at Wolves just before the international break.

Giacomo Raspadori (13/10 anytime for Napoli at Cremonese)

Napoli are the team to watch in Italy, with Luciano Spalletti’s side tearing it up both domestically and on the European stage.

Eight Serie A outings this season have returned six wins, two draws and a whopping 18 goals scored, and the Naples outfit have been even more impressive in the Champions League, thrashing Ajax 6-1 in midweek, having already beaten Liverpool 4-1 and Rangers 3-0.

Victor Osimhen is usually the star of the show, but the Nigeria international striker has been absent through injury since Napoli’s early September victory over Liverpool, giving Giacomo Raspadori the chance to step up and shine.

The 22-year-old Sassuolo loanee made a slightly slow start at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona but has now scored in three of his last five outings for Napoli, including two goals against Ajax on Tuesday, and he also scored the goal that propelled Italy into the Nations League finals last month.

He is high in confidence and will be looking to stake his claim to a starting berth before Osimhen returns, and could find fewer more obliging opponents than this weekend’s hosts, Cremonese.

Serie A’s second-from-bottom side are winless in eight outings in 2022-23 and have already conceded three or more goals on three separate occasions.

Lautaro Martinez (5/4 anytime for Inter Milan at Sassuolo)

Inter Milan and Lautaro Martinez have not hit the heights they had been hoping to in 2022-23, with the Nerazzurri slipping up in all four meetings with teams currently in the top six.

Nor has the Argentina international been getting the goals he would expect to have racked up, netting only three in eight Serie A outings.

However, it is not for the lack of trying, as only two players in Italy’s top flight have recorded more shots per game this season than Martinez, and he has only been a whisker away on several occasions.

It feels like a matter of time before his luck turns and the Inter striker gets back to the form that saw him notch 21 Serie A goals last term. Sassuolo could prove obliging opponents, too, as he has scored against them in each of the past three seasons.

Class is permanent, and three goals in his last three visits to the MAPEI Stadium suggest that Martinez could get back on the goalscoring trail this weekend.
