Como turn to Fabreges

Serie B side Como have placed former Chelsea and Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas in interim charge after parting company with boss Moreno Longo.

Fabregas, who hung up his boots with the Italians last season, steps up from coaching their Under-19s side.

Mirwan Suwarso, a representative of Como's ownership group, said: "We thank Moreno for all his hard work and dedication, especially after coming in following a difficult period last season.

"However, we would like to embark on a new path that hopefully will provide more excitement and entertainment for the fans in Como and beyond.

"We hope to make a new appointment for the head coach position in the near future. We thank the fans for understanding and their unwavering loyalty and support."

Como, who are sixth in the table, return to action against rock-bottom Feralpisalo on November 25.

Mo is one of the best

Brentford boss Thomas Frank insists Mohamed Salah is "one of the best offensive players in the world".

Salah, 31, netted twice yesterday as the Reds saw off Frank's side 3-0 at Anfield.

And the Bees boss could not hide his admiration after the game. He said: "Off the top of my head, there's a chance he's the best player in the Premier League, potentially.

"In terms of goals and assists. What a level!

"He must be one of the best offensive players in the world. Like, not top 10, but top three.

"So when you have a player of that quality [against you], you just know there's a problem."

Back at it

Ex-Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is training with non-league Macclesfield in the hope of landing a deal.

Cisse, 38, is a free agent after leaving Ligue 2 side Amiens at the end of last season.

And it now appears the Senegalese hitman will join the Silkmen, who boast Robbie Savage as their director of football, in the Northern Premier League.

Sterling effort

Raheem Sterling was full of praise for Chelsea after yesterday's thrilling 4-4 draw with Manchester City.

Cole Palmer's late penalty bagged a share of the spoils when it appeared the Blues would finish with nothing to show for their efforts at Stamford Bridge.

And Sterling, who was also on the scoresheet, could not hide his delight with the performance from Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Speaking to Chelseafc.com, he said: "We've played against one of the best, if not the best, teams from the past seven or eight years and we've had a right go at them.

"It's a game I think we could have got more from because we played with such belief and intensity.

"But in the end, it's certainly a good point for us. We've just gone toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the world."

Rotherham axe Taylor

Rotherham have sacked manager Matt Taylor following Saturday's 5-0 mauling at Watford.

Taylor, 41, bossed the Millers for 13 months after taking over from Paul Warne, keeping them in the Championship last term.

But despite record spending in the summer, his side struggled this term against a backdrop of key injuries.

Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart said: "It was felt by myself and the board that we had to act now by making a managerial change in order to give ourselves the best possible chance of retaining our Championship status this season.

"We are grateful to Matt for his efforts over the course of the last year and it has not been an easy decision to make.

"It goes without saying that he leaves with the very best wishes of everyone here."

A new head coach is expected to be in charge when the Millers face Leeds on November 24.
