Ipswich to win & both teams to score

Despite being under constant pressure in the Championship’s automatic promotion race, Ipswich are getting stronger and they head to Cardiff on Saturday seeking a seventh straight success.

Having gotten their January wobbles out of their system, the Tractor Boys are now going through the gears and their string of six successive wins has moved them to within three points of leaders Leicester.

Kieran McKenna’s side showed their strong character in Tuesday’s 3-2 win at home to Bristol City, a match in which they twice fell behind before an 89th-minute winner from flying full-back Leif Davis.

However, title-chasing Ipswich must not take the challenge of Cardiff lightly given the Bluebirds are preparing for a late play-off push.

It may be too little too late in that regard but the Welsh hosts have won three league games in a row, having recorded home victories over Stoke and Huddersfield either side of a gritty success at Bristol City.

Team news

Kion Etete is a doubt for Cardiff while Jak Alnwick and Mark McGuinness are both confirmed absentees.

For Ipswich, Nathan Broadhead, Janoi Donacien, George Hirst and Brandon Williams are all missing through injury.

The stats

Ipswich have won their last six league matches, scoring 22 goals along the way.

Three of those league victories have come away from home against Millwall, Swansea and Plymouth.

Both teams have scored in eight of Ipswich’s last 10 league fixtures.

The net has bulged at both ends in four of the last five Championship meetings between these two teams.

Cardiff are on a three-game winning streak, although they have won only three of their last 11 league games on home soil.

Prediction

Something has to give with both teams on a rich vein of form, but Ipswich are on course for automatic promotion after six straight wins and should have the measure of Cardiff in the Welsh capital.

The Bluebirds have won three in a row but they have profited from a soft schedule with two of those scalps coming against relegation-threatened duo Stoke and Huddersfield.

Ipswich have firepower all over the pitch, having racked up 22 goals in six matches, and they should prove too lively for a Cardiff side that are the lowest scorers in the top half of the table.

That said, McKenna’s men find clean sheets hard to come by and they have conceded in four of their last five victories, so the Welsh hosts may be able to grab a consolation prize.
