Emor Bulut looks set to lead Cardiff to a respectable finish in the Championship

Cardiff to win

Cardiff will bid to win a third league game in a row when they host fourth-bottom Huddersfield in the Championship on Wednesday night.

Erol Bulut's Bluebirds made it back-to-back victories as they won at Bristol City last Saturday and look to be heading for a mid-table finish.

They will take on a Terriers team that have enjoyed a new manager bounce under Andre Breitenreiter with last month's 2-1 win at Watford followed by a battling home draw against promotion-chasing Leeds on Saturday.

Despite that return, results around them mean that Town are now back in 21st position and are level on points with third-from-bottom Stoke going into this midweek round of fixtures.

Team news

Bulut is hopeful forwards Karlan Grant and Kion Etete will be able to shake off injury concerns in time to face Huddersfield.

Grant missed Saturday's win over the Robins because of a calf problem picked up during last weekend's 2-1 success against Stoke.

Etete was substituted early in the second half at Ashton Gate after going down clutching his groin.

The Bluebirds were boosted by the return of midfielder Callum O'Dowda after a lengthy rehabilitation from a groin operation and he could be ready for more minutes off the bench at Cardiff City Stadium.

As for Huddersfield, Michal Helik looks likely to replace Yuta Nakayama in the starting line-up after he stepped up from the bench to score Town's goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds.

Nakayama has been ruled out following a scan on his knee injury and Breitenreiter will be forced into at least one further change with captain Jonathan Hogg suspended after receiving two bookings on Saturday.

The Terriers expended a lot of energy as they played the whole second half with one less player than Leeds and that could boost the prospects of forward Alex Matos, midfielder Ben Wiles, defender Tom Edwards and winger Josh Koroma earning recalls.

The game comes too soon for defender Radinio Balker, who has missed the club's last two games with a quad issue, but right-back Brodie Spencer has been given the all-clear after illness.

The stats

Cardiff City have won eight of their last 10 home league games against Huddersfield Town (D1, L1).

The Bluebirds are looking to complete a league double over the Terriers for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Only Rotherham have attempted and completed fewer passes than Huddersfield in the Championship this season.

Prediction

The Terriers showed plenty of tenacity to claim a point from their West Yorkshire derby at the weekend, but it took a lot out of them.

They were also fortunate not to have been reduced to 10 men earlier when Matty Pearson hacked down Crysencio Summerville while Hogg's second yellow card could easily have been a straight red.

Cardiff coped well with a physical Stoke side on their last home date and are back scoring goals again after a long drought in front of their own fans.

The home side look well placed to pick up all three points in this contest and maintain their march toward the top 10 in the table.
