- Max Verstappen has won the last two races at the Canadian Grand Prix
- Charles Leclerc has finished on the podium in five of this season’s eight races
- Recommended bet:
Charles Leclerc to win

Max Verstappen has been losing that air of invincibility in recent weeks and the Dutchman will be under the spotlight once again as the F1 circus heads to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Failing to win two of the last three races, Verstappen has allowed the chasing pack to gain confidence ahead of this weekend’s meeting at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

After missing out on the chequered flag in both Miami and Monte Carlo, the Red Bull ace looks opposable on Sunday and the hero of Monte Carlo, Charles Leclerc, could be the man to end Verstappen’s reign of dominance in the Canadian Grand Prix.

The stats

Verstappen has won the last two races at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2022 and 2023.

After winning four of the first five races of the 2024 F1 season, Verstappen has struggled in recent weeks, winning only one of the last three.

Lando Norris impressed to win his maiden F1 race in his 110th competition to take the chequered flag at the Miami Grand Prix.

Leclerc goes into this race on the back of achieving a lifelong dream by winning his home race at the Monaco Grand Prix last month.

The Ferrari ace has finished on the podium in all of his last three races and currently sits in second place in the Formula 1 World Championship with 138 points.

Verstappen still leads the way in the standings with 169 points, while Britain’s Norris is in third place with 113 points to his name after the first eight races of the season.

Michael Schumacher (2002-2004) and Lewis Hamilton (2015-2017) are the only two drivers to have won the Canadian Grand Prix three years in a row, something Verstappen is hoping to achieve this weekend.

Prediction

Charles Leclerc should be driving with plenty of confidence after his maiden Monaco GP win last time out

Leclerc took a significant step forward by claiming the Monaco Grand Prix and having gotten that monkey off his back by winning his home race, he will be full of confidence ahead of the race in Montreal on Sunday.

Ferrari’s upgrades, brought in ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, worked well in Monaco and although the street circuit of Monte Carlo could not be more different to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, pace is pace.

Granted, Leclerc made the most of the safety car being deployed in Monaco but he still showed speed and composure to take the win, while Verstappen had to settle for sixth place.

On the back of that win and with Verstappen not looking as infallible as he once did, Leclerc looks to be a good price to cause another upset in Montreal.

Leclerc has been one of the most consistent drivers on the circuit this season and back-to-back wins for the Scuderia star would see the race for the world title well and truly on.
