Bundesliga Matchday 29: A statistical guide to this weekend's matches

RB Leipzig have the chance to close the gap to leaders Bayern Munich as they host Hoffenheim on Friday night.

The champions are also likely to be tested, with a trip to third-placed Wolfsburg the following day.

hey host struggling Werder Bremen on the back of Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final exit against Manchester City.

RB Leipzig vs Hoffenheim (Friday, 7.30pm)

Leipzig are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Hoffenheim and head into this game on the back of an impressive 4-1 win at Werder Bremen.

The visitors, meanwhile, have now gone four matches without a win following a goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Monday night.

RB forward Yussuf Poulsen will hope for a repeat of his winning goal at the PreZero Arena earlier this season — but the Dane has not scored in the Bundesliga since February 27.

Alexander Sorloth is in far better form, however. The Norwegian has notched four in his last five Bundesliga outings, as well as two for his country during the recent international break.

Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Bayern will hope to bounce back from their unexpected draw with Union Berlin last time out as they travel to Wolfsburg.

Oliver Glasner’s team appear on course for a top-four finish, though a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend has somewhat hindered their progress.

Recent history doesnot bode particularly well for the home side. They have not beaten Bayern since 2015 and have fallen to some heavy defeats in that period, including a 4-0 loss at the end of last season.

Unsurprisingly, Robert Lewandowski has tormented Wolfsburg. The Pole has bagged seven goals in his last five appearances against them. 

Fortunately for Die Wolfe, the prolific striker is unlikely to be available having only just returned to training following a ligament strain.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Aspirations of European football next season have rapidly dwindled for Marco Rose’s Gladbach — but opponents Eintracht Frankfurt are in far better shape.

A run of three successive Bundesliga wins has taken Die Adler seven points clear of Dortmund — and they have only been beaten three times all season.

It is a daunting prospect for Gladbach, although last season’s fourth-placed team have arrested a dismal run of recent form by winning two of their last three.

Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen (Sunday, 2.30pm)

Dortmund cannot afford any more slip-ups in their quest for a top-four finish and they will expect to beat a woefully out-of-form Bremen side.

The visitors have lost their last four in a row, while BVB head into the game off the back of a crucial 3-2 victory at Stuttgart.

A 2-1 win against Werder kickstarted Edin Terzic’s Dortmund tenure back in December and extended the club’s unbeaten run against Sunday’s opponents to six league matches.

However, Erling Haaland has now gone four BVB games without scoring in all competitions — his worst run of the season.

Mainz vs Hertha Berlin (Sunday, 5pm)

This is a huge clash at the bottom of the Bundesliga. 

Both Mainz and Hertha are in real danger of relegation, with just two points separating them in 14th and 15th place respectively.

Mainz have the edge in terms of form, unbeaten in their last five. But Hertha have only lost one of their previous five and will be all too aware of 16th-placed Arminia Bielefeld breathing down their neck.

The hosts are certainly favourites — especially given the fact they have lost only once to Hertha in their last eight meetings.
