Man Utd confirm Martinez out for eight weeks with MCL injury
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez will be out for at least eight weeks after damaging his medial collateral ligament against West Ham on Sunday.
The Argentina international had recently returned from a foot injury that saw him miss 22 games for the club.
And now the Premier League giants have confirmed Martinez is set for another spell on the sidelines ahead of an important part of the season for Erik ten Hag's side.
A statement on their website said: "Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks.
"The Argentine defender left the field in the 71st minute of our 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
"We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season."
United moved to within six points of fifth-placed Tottenham with their win against the Hammers and will be eyeing a charge for the Champions League positions in the second half of the season.
But this setback is a huge blow for the Red Devils, who will miss Martinez's tenacity in defence.
Since returning against Spurs in January, United have been unbeaten with their colossal defender back in the team.
The 26-year-old has become a popular figure at the club since signing in 2022 but must now recover with the hope of returning for the final few games in April and May.
