Neal Maupay's last-gasp acrobatic stunner salvaged a point for Brighton away at West Ham.

The hosts had taken an early lead thanks to Tomas Soucek’s glancing header from Pablo Fornals’ corner.

Fornals almost turned scorer just before the half-hour mark when he struck the crossbar before Brighton’s Jakub Moder was denied by Lukasz Fabianski on the brink of half-time.

Declan Rice forced a fine save from Robert Sanchez as the clock ticked down, a chance David Moyes’ side would be left to rue.

The Seagulls had been playing with a man down for the final five minutes after Adam Lallana was forced off and Graham Potter had made all his substitutes, but that did not deter the visitors.

With one minute of normal time remaining, Tariq Lamptey’s cross was finished off by Maupay’s sensational bicycle kick from close range.

Speaking at full-time, the Brighton boss was understandably pleased with the never-say-die attitude from his side.

He said: "There's a really good spirit in the team and the club, we will fight until the end.

“We were down to 10 but still scored and the performance deserved that.

"It is a fantastic point, the trick is to turn possession into goal chances and it is not easy to do against West Ham as Soucek and Rice defend the box very well.

"You have no divine right to win matches, you have to earn them, but we are picking up points and you have to keep going on — we want to win and will try again on Saturday."

Did you know?

The Hammers have failed to win any of their nine Premier League games against Brighton, with each of the last six meetings ending in a draw.

Brighton have now failed to win any of their last nine league games (D7 L2), the third time they have been on a winless run of that length under Potter.

Moyes’ side have equaled their best-ever start to a Premier League season after 14 games with 24 points (also 24 points in 2014-15).

Maupay has now scored five goals in his last seven league starts in the English capital.

Since his league debut in February 2020, only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (eight) and Christian Benteke (seven) have scored more headed goals in the division than Soucek (six).
