Incoming Watford boss Rob Edwards was in attendance to watch his side surrender 5-1 at home to Leicester.

The Hornets made a brilliant start and took the lead after just six minutes when Joao Pedro's deflected strike beat Danny Ward.

But the Foxes drew level in the 18th minute as James Maddison smashed the ball into an empty net following a mix-up between Adam Masina and Craig Cathcart.

The visitors took the lead just four minutes later when Jamie Vardy headed Maddison's ball past the on-rushing Ben Foster on the edge of the Watford box.

Brendan Rodgers' side sprung out of the traps in the second half and doubled their lead within a minute via a stunning Harvey Barnes volley.

The afternoon went from bad to worse for Roy Hodgson's men when Vardy finished off a lightning quick counter-attack after 70 minutes.

Barnes scored his second of the day shortly before full-time with a curled finish into the bottom corner.

Watford remain in 19th and goalkeeper Foster felt that the result would have been the same regardless of who was in the dugout.

He said: "In the final [home] game of the season you can’t put in a performance like that.

"People definitely can't be pinning blame on Roy Hodgson. He galvanised us a bit.

"It doesn't help when you're getting battered and punished for mistakes. I don't think any manager in the world could have saved us."

Leicester climb into the top half with the victory and manager Rodgers was delighted with the result.

He said: "It was a fantastic win. It's never easy at this stage of the season when people think you have nothing to play for.

"I'm proud of the players. They turned up. They were hungry right to the end. It's a good win for us.

"It's how we want to play. We want to be difficult to play against with or without the ball. We did both today."
