Manchester United have made an offer to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

The Dane, 30, is available for no fee as his Brentford deal expires on June 30.

Eriksen made an immediate impression after signing for the Bees on a short-term contract in January, helping them achieve a comfortable 13th-place finish.

But amid suggestions the midfielder is seeking a new challenge away from West London, the Athletic claim the Red Devils have tabled a contract offer.

Manager Erik ten Hag is seeking to bolster his midfield options for his first campaign in charge and securing Eriksen could represent a shrewd bit of business.

But United are sure to face competition from elsewhere, with a return to former club Tottenham, a switch to Everton and an offer to extend his stay at Brentford all reported to be on the table.

The player himself has admitted he has plenty of suitors, while handing Spurs a boost in the race by admitting he would like to play in the Champions League again.

He said: "I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision.

"I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me."

United signing Eriksen would not rule out a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, with the Daily Mail reporting that Ten Hag would like both to arrive at Old Trafford this summer.

Netherlands international De Jong, 25, is believed to be their No1 priority as talks continue, though the Blaugrana’s £70million price tag is proving to be a stumbling block.

Departing United midfielder Paul Pogba is close to agreeing his return to Juventus and will sign officially at the start of July, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Evening Standard say striker Gabriel Jesus wants to join Arsenal and be reunited with boss Mikel Arteta, who was previously Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

But the Gunners could miss out on Everton forward Richarlison, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that Spurs and Chelsea are the Brazilian’s preferred destinations.
