Manchester United are ready to pounce if Robert Lewandowski does not extend his contract at Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils are in the market for a striker this summer — and the Bayern star certainly fits the bill.

His hat-trick against FC Salzburg on Tuesday night helped fire the German giants into the Champions League quarter-finals and took his goal tally for the season to 42 in just 35 games.

But German outlet Bild say that Lewandowski, 33, is yet to be approached by his club about a new deal.

His current one runs out at the end of next season and rumours last summer suggested he was looking for a new challenge.

There is likely to be a clamour for his signature despite his advancing years and United have placed themselves at the front of the queue.

Edinson Cavani will almost certainly leave Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign, while neither Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford are guaranteed to be at the club next season either.

The Mail also believe the Red Devils are weighing up a cut-price move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

The 25-year-old may be available for as little as £25million with less than 18 months remaining on his deal and Lyon are keen not to lose him for free as they did when Memphis Depay joined Barcelona.

Dembele has nine goals in 19 Ligue 1 games this term and has scored 54 times in 130 appearances since moving from Celtic for £19.7m in 2018.
