Liverpool are said to be eyeing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.

Nunes, 24, only joined the Midlands side this summer — signing for £38million from Sporting — but has already attracted the interest of the English giants.

According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Jurgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen in the middle of the park and Bellingham remains his top target.

But should Liverpool lose out on the England international, attention would turn to Nunes, who has settled in well at Wolves.

The eight-cap Portugal international has a well-rounded style of play, with dribbling, passing and tackling all strong features of his game.

Nunes only recorded 17 goal contributions in 101 appearances for Sporting, but his influence runs deeper than his impact around the penalty area.

If the Reds were to make a move for the midfielder, they would have to hold off until next summer as he has already played for two clubs in the 2022-23 campaign.

The same outlet also report that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Benfica's Enzo Fernandez in case they decide to make a move in the January transfer window.

Argentine ace Fernandez is a similar player to Nunes but scores more goals from midfield — he recorded 12 in 53 appearances for River Plate before making the summer switch to the Eagles.
