Enzo Fernandez has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez has given the green light to a move to Chelsea, who are now in direct talks with Benfica for the midfielder.

The 21-year-old is in demand after playing a starring role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar, performances which saw him pick up the tournament's Young Player Award.

Liverpool and Manchester United were keen on the starlet but it is Chelsea who are now in pole position, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Benfica have stood firm in demanding that their player’s £106million release clause must be paid in full for any move to happen.

Eagles president Rui Costa said: "We don't want to sell Enzo Fernandez in January, but we are willing to satisfy the boy in the event of an offer of €120m."

The Blues are wary of paying that figure in one installment so will offer a huge fee which would be paid out across a long time period.

With neither Liverpool nor Manchester United submitting a bid and Fernandez already agreeing to the Stamford Bridge move, it should come down to whether the two clubs can shake hands on a deal.

Prior to his heroics in Qatar, Fernandez was in similarly impressive form for his club, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 24 appearances.
