Christian Eriksen is closing in on a return to football with Brentford seven months after collapsing at Euro 2020.

The Danish midfielder has been training with former club Ajax in a bid to gain fitness as he prepares for his comeback.

And the Mirror claim the ex-Tottenham star will join the Bees in the next few days — if he passes a medical — in a huge boost for Thomas Frank's side.

Eriksen, 29, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for his country in last summer's Euros and has not played a competitive game since.

He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator and was unable to continue his career with Inter Milan as the devices are banned by Serie A.

But Eriksen is determined to earn a spot in the Denmark squad for the 2022 World Cup and will bid to stake a claim by turning around struggling Brentford's fortunes after being allowed to leave the Italian club.

The gifted playmaker managed 113 goal contributions in 226 appearances for Tottenham before his switch to Inter.

Ex-Ajax and Manchester United defender Daley Blind had the same device fitted after collapsing on the field and managed to carry on playing.
