Victor Osimhen's future was a major talking point throughout the summer transfer window.

The Nigerian striker enjoyed a magnificent 2022-23 season at Napoli, with his 26 goals and impressive all-round play helping fire the Partenopei to their first Serie A title since 1990.

Interest in the 24-year-old remains high — with numerous Premier League and Saudi Pro League clubs planning to try and acquire his coveted signature in the future.

Oct 2: No love lost

Victor Osimhen says his love for Napoli is "unwavering" despite the offensive video posted on the club's TikTok account last week.

In his first statement since the fallout, Osimhen said: "The passion of the people of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride."

The Nigerian appears to have drawn a line under the issue for now, having came off the bench to score in Saturday's 4-0 drubbing of Lecce.

Sept 30: Rested

Napoli boss Rudi Garcia revealed he decided to leave Victor Osimhen out against Lecce due to squad rotation.

He told DAZN: "The lads know they must be fully concentrated on this match, because it is already a few days after the last game and it is played under the sun and heat.

"This is no friendly, Lecce have had a great start to the season and we must be at 100% physically and mentally to get a result. There has to be squad rotation."

Victor Osimhen's future looks even more uncertain after Napoli's statement on the TikTok video controversy.

The club wrote: "On social media and TikTok particularly, expressive language is used in a light-hearted and playful manner.

"In this case involving Victor, there was no intention of mockery or derision. If Victor was in any way offended, this was not at all in the club's intentions."

Sept 28: Saudi suitors

A number of Saudi Pro League clubs are keeping tabs on Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are thought to lead the race for the Nigerian ace but Saudi suitors may be able to offer a more appealing financial package.

Manchester United and Real Madrid remain in the running too, which could spark a surge in Napoli's asking price.

Sept 27: Social storm

Victor Osimhen could take legal action following a social media post from Napoli's official TikTok account.

The clip, since deleted, prompted a statement from Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda: "What happened is not acceptable.

"We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor."
