Manchester United and Arsenal will look to follow in the footsteps of English counterparts Manchester City and Chelsea tonight when they bid to book spots in a European final.
Along with previews of both second-leg ties of the Europa League semi-finals, we will also deliver our usual dose of daily sports news.
Roma vs Manchester United (8pm, BT Sport)
Playing in a European semi-final away from home should be a daunting task — but things look set to be unusually straightforward for Manchester United when they meet Roma tonight.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men arrive in the Italian capital holding a whopping four-goal cushion after recovering from a slow start to blitz their beleaguered opponents 6-2 at Old Trafford last week.
It was quite the second-half performance from the Red Devils with the trio of Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba combining to run riot.
For Pogba, 28, it was the continuation of a purple patch that has led many pundits to declare him back to his best — but will the Frenchman be a United player for much longer?
With his contract having one more season left to run, we take a closer look at what the future holds for him and whether United should commit to another bumper deal for their enigmatic midfielder.
Arsenal vs Villarreal (8pm, BT Sport)
While things may be looking rather rosy for United, Arsenal’s fate remains firmly in the balance as Unai Emery and his Villarreal side visit the Emirates.
The Spaniards raced into a 2-0 lead before half-time in last week’s first leg before a needless second yellow card for Gunners midfielder Dani Ceballos threatened to derail their hopes of reaching the final altogether.
But Bukayo Saka’s excellent footwork to earn a penalty, which was calmly tucked away by Nicolas Pepe, means the tie is very much alive heading into tonight’s decider.
If Mikel Arteta’s side are to make it to Gdansk for the competition’s showpiece later this month, a much-improved performance will be required at both ends of the pitch.
Ahead of the clash, we highlight some of the lessons that need to be learned if the Londoners are to turn the tie around at the expense of their former manager.
