Who will Carlo Ancelotti look to sign this summer?

There is a rare Thursday double-header in the Premier League tonight as Aston Villa host Everton and old foes Manchester United and Liverpool meet in a rearranged clash.

As well as covering both games in detail, our weekly motorsport column clicks into gear to help get you up to speed with everything happening on the track.

Aston Villa vs Everton (6pm, Sky Sports)

A vital win at West Ham last Sunday means Everton travel to Aston Villa tonight with their hopes of European qualification still intact.

Given they sat only six points off the top with two games in hand at Christmas, Villa could easily have been in the top-six race themselves — but things have unravelled since.

Six wins from 21 outings mean the hosts are destined for mid-table but Carlo Ancelotti’s men can still force their way into contention if they finish with a flourish.

That is far from a certainty, though. Rarely has a team been so bafflingly inconsistent as the Toffees this term, winning only one of their last 10 home games but only losing one of their last 13 away trips.

With an experienced manager at the helm and an ambitious owner overseeing affairs, the Merseysiders seem certain to dip back into the transfer market this summer in a bid to further bridge the gap to England’s elite.

Ahead of tonight’s game, we consider what areas of the Everton squad could benefit from strengthening.

Manchester United vs Liverpool (8.15pm, Sky Sports)

Jurgen Klopp will need to get his tactics right at Old Trafford tonight

Manchester United will play their third game in five days when arch-rivals Liverpool visit Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a heavily rotated side against Leicester on Tuesday and paid the price as the Red Devils went down 2-1 — crowning Manchester City as champions in the process.

Three points from their last three league clashes should be enough to secure second place, while United also have a Europa League final to look forward to at the end of the month.

There can be no doubt that tonight’s contest has more importance for the visitors, with Chelsea's defeat to Arsenal opening the door to qualifying for the Champions League.

Even if they do sneak into the top four, it has been a disappointing season for Liverpool and one they will be keen to bounce back from.

We take a closer look at the lessons Jurgen Klopp and the Reds will have learned from a difficult campaign.
