Scott Wright marked his deadline day transfer from Rangers by coming off the bench to score an added-time winner as Birmingham beat brave Wigan 2-1 in Sky Bet League One.

After an even start Birmingham took an 18th-minute lead through a beautifully crafted goal which started when Christoph Klarer threaded a pass into Willum Willumsson in the centre circle.

The Iceland international turned and played a similarly well-weighted ball into Alfie May’s path. Once the striker got the wrong side of his defender it seemed inevitable he would finish comfortably past Sam Tickle.

The hosts did not really create another clear-cut chance in the remainder of the first half and it was the Latics who were on top in the second – to the extent it was no surprise when they equalised.

However, they needed an error from Bailey Peacock-Farrell to do it after the Birmingham goalkeeper allowed Thelo Aasgaard’s 66th minute shot to squirm away from him and over the line.

Wright spared Peacock-Farrell’s blushes in the first minute of added time though, popping up in the right place in a goalmouth scramble to smash the ball high into the net.
