Scotland have qualified for next summer's European Championship after Spain beat Norway.

Steve Clarke's team are now second in Group A — behind Spain on goal difference — but Norway cannot catch either country with just one fixture left.

The Tartan Army were left waiting after losing 2-0 to Spain in Seville on Thursday, with Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet scoring following a controversially disallowed Scott McTominay strike.

But qualification remained likely despite that defeat, as Norway needed a victory over La Roja to keep their hopes of a top-two finish alive.

Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and Co could not produce the necessary quality to beat Spain in Oslo, with Gavi scoring the game's only goal after Morata had seen an earlier strike ruled out for offside.

Scotland's task will now be to finish above Spain in the group in an effort to be a top seed in the Euro 2024 draw.

Clarke's side travel to Georgia and host Norway in their remaining matches, while Spain face bottom side Cyprus and Georgia.

Scotland and Spain are among the first teams to qualify for the competition, joining hosts Germany, Belgium, France, Portugal and Turkey in the finals.

Clarke has become the first Scotland manager in history to guide his country to back-to-back European Championship finals.

Euro 2020 was the nation's first major tournament since World Cup 1998 — and the aim next year will be to perform better in the group stages, with Scotland taking just one point from games against England, Croatia and Czech Republic last time out.
