RB Leipzig and Manchester City both made winning starts to their Champions League campaigns last month and the outcome of their tie at the Red Bull Arena could prove influential as both teams vie for top spot in Group G.

The Bundesliga giants may have seen their six-match winning streak come to an end at the weekend but that was in a 2-2 draw with champions Bayern Munich, a team they thrashed 3-0 in the German Super Cup in their season curtain-raiser.

City got their Champions League defence off to a winning start against Crvena zvezda but Pep Guardiola’s side will face much sterner opposition when they visit in-form RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The hosts have lost only one of their nine competitive games this season, with their only draw coming against Bayern Munich on Saturday, while one of their seven victories was a 3-0 triumph over the Bavarian giants in the German Super Cup in August.

They come into this game having lost just twice at home in 2023 and they have been able to hold their own against the might of Manchester City at the Red Bull Arena.
