Arne Slot's Liverpool will be hoping it is third time lucky against Crystal Palace this season
  • Liverpool have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions

  • Crystal Palace have lost three games since Everton ended their unbeaten run

  • Recommended bet: Liverpool to win

Liverpool host Crystal Palace at Anfield in the fourth round of the CarabaoCup on Wednesday evening and manager Arne Slot will be hoping to arrest the Reds’ current slide following their latest setback against Brentford.

Palace, meanwhile, have not won in four across all competitions having previously gone 19 matches unbeaten — a run that stretched back to April.

Team news

Liverpool could be without midfielder Curtis Jones, who was forced off against Brentford and will be assessed. Alexander Isak, Ryan Gravenberch and Jeremie Frimpong are among the other absentees.

With goalkeeper Alisson Becker out with a hamstring injury, Freddie Woodman could be handed a surprise start, with Giorgi Mamardashvili currently needed for the Premier League and Champions League.

Crystal Palace are without midfielder Cheick Doucore, who is out with a knee injury, while Chadi Riad and Caleb Kporha are also unavailable. Manager Oliver Glasner is expected to make a few tweaks to his side but wholesale changes are unlikely.

The stats

Liverpool have only won three times in their last nine games against Palace, the most recent of those successes coming in October 2024.

The Reds have lost five of their last six matches having previously won seven straight across all competitions.

Palace have kept just two clean sheets in nine matches since the start of September.

The teams last met in the League Cup 20 years ago this week and Palace came out on top, with Dougie Freedman and Marco Reich scoring in a 2-1 victory.

Prediction

Pressure and frustration is mounting at a rapid rate following Liverpool’s latest defeat at the hands of Brentford and boss Arne Slot needs to find a solution to improve the Reds’ poor form.

The Premier League champions have now lost five in six games and will be looking to get back to winning ways and prove that last week’s 5-1 triumph against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League is not the exception to what is becoming a worrying norm.

Crystal Palace are also enduring a relatively rough spell off the back of a positive start to the campaign.

Oliver Glasner’s side had gone 19 games unbeaten before suffering a 2-1 defeat at Everton earlier this month. Since then, they have lost three in four, including a surprise home defeat to AEK Larnaca in the Conference League.

Liverpool, with the advantage of Anfield under the lights, are the favourites to progress but it’s important to note that the Eagles have a hold over the Reds this season.

It was Palace who set Slot’s side on this losing run with a 2-1 league victory at Selhurst Park in September, while they also claimed a penalty shootout success in the Community Shield in August.

This game will be tight but with home support, Liverpool would hope to get revenge on Palace and earn a place in the next round.
