Padres star Tatis placed on injured list after positive COVID test

San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. has been placed on the injured list after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Padres announced the shortstop, along with Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo, were added to the IL ahead of Tuesday's game with the Colorado Rockies.

Manager Jayce Tingler confirmed Tatis had tested positive and is asymptomatic. Profar and Mateo are in contact tracing.

Tatis has hit nine home runs during the 2021 season, including a 454-foot blast in his last appearance against the San Francisco Giants.

He has a batting average of .240 and a slugging percentage of .552, while Tatis' seven stolen bases lead MLB's National League.

The Padres started Tuesday with a 19-16 record, second in the NL West behind the Giants.
