Norwich earned their second point of the season following a goalless draw with Brighton at Carrow Road.

Both sides had a plethora of chances throughout the game but neither were able to take them.

Neal Maupay had an appeal for a penalty turned down by VAR before then seeing an effort on goal saved by Tim Krul as the in-form Seagulls went in search of another three points.

Yet it was the hosts who had perhaps the most clear-cut chance of the game, as a Brighton defensive mishap presented Josh Sargent with an open goal.

But the American's tame rolled effort did not have enough power to take it over the line.

The result means that Brighton climb to fourth in the table, while Norwich remain rooted to the bottom.

Canaries boss Daniel Farke remained positive following the final whistle. He said: "Not frustrating. Of course, we are a bit disappointed we didn't get all three points.

"We wanted to add the second unbeaten game in a row — we did.

"The only final bit that was missing was the cutting-edge and getting the ball over the line.

"I think at this level you have to score at least one goal."

Brighton manager Graham Potter meanwhile, cut a disappointed figure at full-time. He said: "We did some things well but not good enough to get the three points.

"Norwich have been a back five for the past two games. They are fighting for their lives.

"I don't think you could say that we did enough to earn the three points."

Norwich’s haul of two points from their first eight league games of a season is their worst-ever tally at this stage of a league campaign.

Since their maiden Premier League season in 2017-18, Brighton have been involved in 19 goalless draws — five more than any other side in that time.

Norwich’s last two Premier League games have ended goalless, with the Canaries registering back-to-back clean sheets in the competition for the first time since March 2016.

Brighton are unbeaten in their last four Premier League away games (W2 D2), after losing each of the three before that; it’s their longest unbeaten run on the road in the league since September 2020 (eight games).

Norwich remain the only side yet to take the lead in a Premier League match this season. The Canaries haven’t led in any of their last 12 games in the competition, with only Manchester City ever having a longer such run (15 between April and October 1995).

Each of Brighton captain Lewis Dunk’s 151 Premier League appearances have come as starts, the eighth-best 100% starting record in the competition for an outfield player (Gareth Southgate top with 426).
