Patrick Mahomes insisted his Kansas City Chiefs team-mates and coach Andy Reid should take the credit after inspiring yet another stunning Super Bowl victory.

The Chiefs lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy for the second consecutive year and third time in five season after Mahomes' touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman earned a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

And after becoming just the sixth quarterback to win three or more Super Bowls, the 28-year-old called Reid "the best coach of all time".

He said: "The whole game was just a microcosm of our entire season.

"The defence kept us in there, with the offence making plays when it counted. I'm just so proud of the guys.

"I know we're going to celebrate tonight but we're not done. We've got a young team and we're going to keep this thing going.

"I believe he [Reid] is the best coach of all time.

"I know he doesn't have the trophies yet but the way he's able to navigate every single team he has, continue to have success no matter where he's at, I don't think I'd be the quarterback I am if I didn't have coach Reid."

Mahomes' colleagues were less reluctant to heap praise on the game's MVP.

Tight end Travis Kelce — whose relationship with pop star Taylor Swift was a major talking point in the build-up to the event — knew his side were always alive with the ball in Mahomes' hands.

Kelce said: "I guess at this point I take it for granted.

"But I know we're in every single game I've ever played in [with Mahomes].

"No matter what the score is, no matter how much time is left, that guy's got magic in his right arm and he found ways to propel us.

"We get a chance to do it all again next year. I'll see you there."
