Newbury hosts a six-race card on Thursday evening

Evening racing on Thursday takes place at Newbury, with a shortened six-race offering on the schedule from 6.05pm through until 8.40pm.

Conditions at Newbury are set to be 'good to firm' for the meeting and we have selected our five to follow.

6.05pm - Taste Newbury Amateur Jockeys' Handicap (1m2f)

Top-weight Frankly Mr Shankly isn't bypassed in haste, he has finished second in each of his last three starts and could go one better, but HASANKEY may have been found a nice opportunity here by Laura Morgan.

He last ran on the Flat in Ireland for Dermot Weld in 2019 but there have been some solid National Hunt efforts this year and a mark of 70 is within reach now back in this code.

With Alice Coleman claiming 7lb off his back, his chance could be quite a good one.

LiveScore Selection: Hasankey

6.35pm - Laithwaites Wine Nursery (6f)

Bicep (right) is looking to build on narrow Lingfield win
Bicep (right) is looking to build on narrow Lingfield win

BICEP just about managed to prevail on debut at Lingfield on the all-weather over this trip in May, clinging on at the line after being booted for home by Hollie Doyle on the final bend — the closers taking dead aim as the post loomed.

Archie Watson's son of Mehmas was outclassed at Royal Ascot since over 5f but, with Doyle back on board, can make a positive start on his handicap bow returned to this distance and from an opening mark of 76.

LiveScore Selection: Bicep

7.05pm - Veolia Handicap (1m2f)

The returning Clay is one to be noted for the Richard Hannon team, more so if there is positive vibes for him.

That being said, the hat-trick may beckon for MIRAMICHI at a track where his trainer Tom Dascombe does ever so well.

He is 2/3 under Jane Elliot, prevailing in those two recent starts over 1m2f at Haydock on good to firm going.

He defied a penalty in ready fashion 20 days ago and a 5lb increase might not prevent more success.

LiveScore Selection: Miramichi

8.10pm - Laithwaites Wine New Zealand Sauvignon Handicap (7f)

Atty's Edge, Almost An Angel and Mellys Flyer are all last time out winners.

Of the trio, its George Scott's gelded son of Dandy Man that would make most appeal in attempting to follow-up.

Perhaps HANDYTALK can avoid an unwanted hat-trick of bridesmaid finishes for the Rod Millman team.

His only two runs here in the past were over 5f and saw him held up.

He has got the stamina for this distance, despite all his wins coming over shorter, and could have a major say if Tom Marquand can poach a soft early advantage.

LiveScore Selection: Handytalk

8.40pm - Veolia Fillies' Handicap (1m4f)

Each of Dreams Unwind, Livia The Empress and Nellie Moon could be good enough on recent form but there are a few lurkers to worry about.

Namely, handicap debutantes DREAMBIRD and Novel Idea, with preference for Roger Charlton's Oasis Dream filly.

Her form in three qualifying runs hardly set the heather on fire but she is bred to be better and goes handicapping from a low enough base of 64.

With Thomas Greatrex taking 3lb off, it's not a major stretch to see improvement that will bring her into the reckoning.

LiveScore Selection: Dreambird
