Oisin Murphy paid tribute to his support group as he managed to secure a third straight Champion Jockey title

Oisin Murphy admitted to being relieved after he was crowned Champion Jockey for the third successive year at Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot.

The Killarney-born jockey had to fight until the very end to get his hands on the trophy, with William Buick producing a late charge during the last few weeks.

At times throughout the week, Buick had cut Murphy's lead to one, but a double at Haydock on Friday ensured Muphy had a three-race advantage ahead of Champions Day.

Buick landed one victory as he helped Creative Force win the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes, but he failed to add to that tally, as Murphy got the chance to celebrate with those in attendance at Ascot.

He told reporters: "I'm over the moon and thrilled to get it across the line. Thank you to my family and everyone - I've got a massive support group.

"The last week, I've had a lot of people on my side. Frankie Dettori has been there every day, making sure my spirits are up, and I was riding off instinct as normal, which is key.

"You need to make every ride count, and I was running out of opportunities. I held it together, thankfully in the end."

Murphy might have failed to ride a winner at Ascot, but fans were still able to enjoy a thrilling day of action.

Hollie Doyle started the day with a win as she guided Alan King's Trueshan to victory in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup.

Trueshan, who won the Prix du Cadran two weeks ago, extended his winning run to three as he beat Tashkhan and Stradivarius in the opener.

Jim Crowley was able to celebrate three victories on Saturday afternoon, with his first victory coming on board Eshaada in the Qipco British Champions Filles & Mares Stakes.

Odds-on favourite Snowfall could only finish third, with Albaflora finishing a short head behind Eshaada.

Thirty minutes later, Crowley then led Baaeed home in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as William Haggas' charge beat Palace Pier to continue his unbeaten start.

Three-year-old Baaeed only made his debut in June, but he made it six wins from as many outings as he overcame Palace Pier and Lady Bowthorpe

There was a surprise winner of the Champion Stakes as Cedric Rossi's Sealiway rallied to narrowly beat Dubai Honour

After finishing second to St Mark's Basilica in the French Derby, Sealiway finally got his moment in the winning enclosure at odds of 12/1.

The final race of Saturday's Champions Day went the way of Aldaary, with Crowley completing his hat-trick as he secured Haggas his second victory of the day.
