Jump racing at Southwell is the highlight on Tuesday
Jump racing at Southwell is the highlight on Tuesday

A Tuesday evening treat is in store for fans of jumps racing as Southwell hosts a bumper eight-race meeting over the obstacles.

The card gets up and running at 5.12pm and runs until the finale at 8.50pm.

'Good' ground is forecast and the likes of Nicky Henderson, Fergal O'Brien, Nigel Twiston-Davies and Dr Richard Newland all have contenders.

And we have picked out five horses for you to follow.

5.12pm - Casumo Bet 10 Get 10 Handicap Chase (3m)

The lightly-raced DEBDEN BANK hasn't taken long to get the hang of things since going chasing.

Martin Keighley's charge had three starts over fences in 2020, opening his account at this venue over 2m4½f on soft ground in December at the third attempt.

He was not spotted again until last month and he strung the field out behind him over 2m7f on good ground there.

He has gone up another 8lb for that success but Ben Godfrey offsets a large portion of that and, in any case, he may well have plenty more to come.

LiveScore Selection: Debden Bank

6.15pm - Download The Casumo App Today Handicap Chase (3m)

An intriguing contest despite only five runners. Activial and Rock On Fruity are the 'old boys' in the line-up.

The former has been doing his best in veterans' races of late, while the Newcastle race won in March by Ben Haslam's charge was a weak event and he is 4lb higher now.

Yeavering Belle split a couple of decent sorts in novice company last time at Worcester but BBOLD may be best equipped here for Dr Richard Newland and Sam Twiston-Davies.

He tends to enjoy summer jumping and shaped well repeatedly from this mark already, including his Worcester second 20 days ago.

7.15pm - Casumo Proud To Support British Racing Novices' Hurdle (2m)

BYZANTINE EMPEROR was not entirely suited at Newton Abbot three weeks ago by the way things panned out in a three-runner contest won by odds-on jolly Celestial Force — a much more experienced hurdler.

Fergal O'Brien's runner has previously won a C&D novice from a next-time-out winner and should be able to give a good account here under 5lb claimer Liam Harrison.

Chance A Tune and Olympic Conqueror are players too but this 4YO is open to more progress and will appreciate a more conventional race with eight runners involved.

LiveScore Selection: Byzantine Emperor

7.45pm - Join Casumo Today Mares' Handicap Hurdle (3m)

Last-time-out winners Forchena and MISSCARLETT look to hold rather obvious follow-up claims in the mares' handicap hurdle. Tom Lacey's charge is a former C&D winner and completed a treble when scoring at Hexham just over five weeks ago.

She has to give a chunk of weight however to Phil Kirby's Misscarlett, who came good at Uttoxeter (2m4f, good) last month for a first win over timber at the 11th attempt.

She had plenty in hand and, while 8lb higher now, could do better having shaped nicely at Perth previously over this sort of trip.

LiveScore Selection: Misscarlett

8.20pm - Gamble Responsibly With Casumo Handicap Hurdle (2m4f)

PINNACLE PEAK has run three times in new cheekpieces of late and, after a decent fourth over this C&D in May on good ground, has easily scored here and at Worcester over longer distances since for Martin Keighley and Sean Bowen.

He had any amount in hand eight days ago and a mandatory 7lb penalty surely won't prevent him adding to his tally if this drop back in distance does not catch him out.
