LiveScore Racing Preview: Newcastle, January 13, 2022
There are seven races on Newcastle's tapeta surface on Thursday, with the meeting getting underway at 1.50pm and finishing up after the 4.50pm contest.
The feature race is an All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier, a class two affair over 1m2f.
And we have picked five horses for you to follow.
1.50pm - Play 4 To Win At Betway Handicap (1m4½f)
WADACRE GOGO finished 2021 in decent form, as she came home second in her final two starts of the year.
A slight drop down in trip should be beneficial as she has scored over this distance before.
Charlie and Mark Johnston's filly remains off a very workable mark and after a few weeks off, she is likely to be fresh and ready for this opening run of the year.
LiveScore selection: Wadacre Gogo
2.20pm - #betyourway At Betway Handicap (5f)
Both of BLAZING HOT's two victories have come over this minimum distance of 5f on the all-weather.
He has hit the frame on his latest two outings, however, just being headed in the closing stages of those 6f races.
This latest mark of 61 should not be a problem for Grant Tuer's sprinter, as he was once rated as high as 74, and he can get back to winning ways here in this handicap contest.
LiveScore selection: Blazing Hot
2.50pm - Betway Casino Handicap (1m2f)
A switch to the AW really helped JOMONT at the back of 2021, as he produced back-to-back victories over this C&D.
His latest success came in a class four event where he prevailed by a narrow margin.
Michael Dods' runner has gone up just 1lb so it gives him a great chance of completing a hat-trick of wins.
He also remains open to improvement and we may not have seen the best of him yet on this surface.
LiveScore selection: Jomont
3.20pm - Betway Conditions Stakes (All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) (1m2f)
With three wins from three starts on the AW, connections of AL ZARAQAAN will be hopeful of another big run here.
The former Group Two runner has just two rivals to beat, and he clearly sets the standard.
This horse moved from William Haggas to Archie Watson's yard earlier this month.
That switch in surroundings hopefully will help the horse find his best form again and the five-year-old is capable of adding a lot more victories to his name this year, if he remains on this surface.
LiveScore selection: Al Zaraqaan
3.50pm - Watch Racing Free Online At Coral Handicap (7f)
NEPTUNE LEGEND is a little unlucky to have only scored once so far in his career.
He went close several times last time year, including on his latest run at Kempton (7f), where he was runner-up in a nine-runner event.
The handicapper has kept Hugo Palmer's gelding off this same mark of 85.
He definitely has more wins in him and he may be able to start a consecutive run of successes here in this small runner field.
LiveScore selection: Neptune Legend
