Our focus for Tuesday's racing action centres on Hereford's seven-race card

The early January racing action is certainly not as high-brow as that to which we became accustomed over the previous fortnight but Hereford's Tuesday jumps card is certainly competitive.

They have a seven-race card by the River Wye from 12.45pm until 3.50pm with conditions forecast to be 'Good to soft-soft in places'.

And we have picked out five horses to follow on the day.

12.45pm - Watch Off The Fence On attheraces.com Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Handicap Hurdle (2m4f)

Nicky Henderson's Brilliant Present is a possible contender having finished fourth at Taunton in November in a decent novice contest. His opening mark could be fair.

MERRY MISTRESS won a C&D handicap in November from 6lb lower and has since finished fourth at Wincanton from this perch. #

That race has also worked out well and David Dennis' mare can thrive back on this happy hunting ground.

1.15pm - Off The Fence On youtube.com/attheraces Juvenile Maiden Hurdle (2m)

The Warren Greatrex-trained LINE OF DESCENT should be able to land a maiden of this ilk.

The Nathaniel gelding was rated 85 on the Flat last season for Simon and Ed Crisford and last month's Newbury fourth on hurdles bow was promising.

He only weakened late on having tried to make all and the winner, Forever William, was third in the Grade 1 Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow over Christmas.

1.45pm - Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle (3m1½f)

For sheer consistency of late, it's hard to look beyond Mr Washington, winner of five of his seven starts since joining Tom Symonds over the summer.

His Uttoxeter second last month amounted to another career-best in defeat and while he is up 5lb for that effort, Lilly Pinchin's claim balances the books.

That said, ART OF DIPLOMACY made a winning start for Dr Richard Newland when stepped up to 3m at Ludlow in November, scoring with something to spare.

He is 8lb higher here but he could be another to follow for this shrewd handler.

The feature race of the afternoon and a field of seven are set to line up.

Red Rookie improved on seasonal comeback at Chepstow only to unseat Tom Bellamy last month at Ascot. A clear round will have them in the mix.

CALL ME LORD was the best of these over hurdles and should find this easier than last month's Uttoxeter chasing bow.

He was a Grade 2-winning hurdler at around this distance and Nicky Henderson's charge could now take a jump forward with experience gained.

LiveScore selection: Call Me Lord

3.20pm - Sky Sports Racing Virgin 535 Mares' Maiden Hurdle (2m5½)

Good Luck Charm has some promising bumper form to her name and is bred to be a jumper so she is very much one to note debuting over timber for Anthony Honeyball but I SPY A DIVA is also of interest for Kim Bailey.

She won a Worcester bumper on debut in April and came very close to a winning hurdles bow at Huntingdon in October on her comeback.

She stopped sharply soon after in a Stratford Mares' maiden but perhaps something was ailing her then. It's worth forgiving that effort.
