Chepstow hosts eight races on Thursday

The going is set to be 'Heavy' for Chepstow's eight-race card on Thursday, where the action is scheduled for a 12.05pm start with the last race due off at 3.50pm.

There are some excellent contests on the card and we have selected five horses to follow at the Welsh track.

12.05pm - Cazoo Mares' Handicap Hurdle (2m)

Llantara is one of the veterans in this contest at 11 but she cannot be discounted.

She had a spin over fences last month and should be fitter for it, while the return to hurdling looks a plus and she is on a fair mark.

Younger legs are preferred, however, and while it's tempting to side with Bangor winner Lady Tremaine — raised 5lb — David Pipe's HEURE DE GLOIRE is given a chance to shine.

A winner over hurdles in France, she showed promise at Huntingdon in a juvenile contest when second in March on first start for the Pond House handler and both runs this season have come in far stronger races than this one.

She handles testing ground and should appreciate this drop in class.

LiveScore selection: Heure De Gloire

1.40pm - Visit Irish Store Sales With ITM Novices' Chase (2m7½f)

This looks a good spot for the Fergal O'Brien-trained ASK A HONEY BEE to avoid a hat-trick of runner-up finishes over fences.

He has jumped mostly with fluency in runs at Uttoxeter and Exeter thus far and could have done little more than finish second to Threeunderthrufive last time, Paul Nicholls' charge successful twice more since including in a Grade 2 novice contest in December.

Barnaviddaun looks his main rival on paper but is far from certain to line up as he holds an entry at Ffos Las on Wednesday.

LiveScore selection: Ask A Honey Bee

2.50pm - Cazoo Handicap Chase (2m)

GALOP DE CHASSE was well-supported in last month's stable bow for Venetia Williams at Lingfield (2m, heavy) and ultimately won by more than five-lengths, despite not looking the most fluent of travellers at various stages of the race.

Venetia Williams' Galop De Chasse is set to line up in the 2.50pm

He is 7lb higher now but the stable continues to do well and he should be all the better for that pre-Christmas success.

LiveScore selection: Galop De Chasse

3.20pm - Peter Michael Dixon Handicap Hurdle (2m3½f)

Garincha bagged a Wetherby win on Boxing Day in a novices' handicap over this sort of trip on soft ground on what was just a second start after joining Neil Mulholland from Ireland.

A 7lb penalty isn't certain to ground his ambitions but the form of HELIOS ALLEN's Exeter third last month has been advertised by the front pair winning again since and, having won over this C&D prior to that, Nick Williams' charge is very much respected back here.

LiveScore selection: Helios Allen

3.50pm - Coral Fail To Finish Free Bets Handicap Chase (2m3½f)

The Mighty Arc has the talent but does not always find as generously as desired once the pressure is applied.

Plenty of these are entitled to claims but MOUSEINTHEHOUSE is already a dual winner on heavy ground and so conditions should be right up his alley.

Evan Williams' charge is only 2lb above his last win-mark and ran a sound race over C&D last month.

LiveScore selection: Mouseinthehouse.
