Constitution Hill made it two wins from two over hurdles and underlined his Cheltenham Festival credentials by triumphing in the Grade One Tolworth Novices' Hurdle at Sandown Park on Saturday.

Big things were expected of the Nicky Henderson-trained five-year-old following his victory on hurdling debut at Sandown last month and he certainly did not disappoint, triumphing by 12 lengths from nearest rival Jetoile.

The Blue Bresil gelding has now been installed by many bookmakers as the favourite to go on and win the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

That certainly appears to be the plan for Constitution Hill, with winning trainer Henderson, who was watching Saturday's race from home due to self-isolation regulations, full of praise for his latest Grade One winner.

He said: "For obvious reasons we couldn't be there at Sandown today, which was sad, and I hate to tell you that it's even worse watching it from home.

"It's somehow even more nerve wracking than when you're there!

"We didn't know about the ground. There had been a lot of hype from one run but he's an extraordinary horse and just to go round there and do that was frightening, to be honest with you."

Henderson certainly knows a thing or two about triumphing in the Tolworth, as Constitution Hill was his record-extending sixth winner in the race, and the trainer will be hoping the Michael Buckley-owned gelding can now become the first horse since Summerville Boy in 2018 to complete the Tolworth-Supreme double.

Constitution Hill's main rival for the Supreme at Cheltenham is expected to be stablemate Jonbon, with Henderson revealing he would have no problem with the two going head-to-head at The Festival.

Henderson added: "We're just very lucky boys in that we have Jonbon as well, who in fact is the absolute opposite to this horse.

"Jonbon is a hyperactive busybody who is always on his toes and this fella, Constitution Hill, is about as laidback as any horse I've ever come across.

"If they meet at Cheltenham then so be it, they will have to do so. We're just very lucky to have two horses like them."
